PERSONS WHO WISH TO SPEAK DURING AUDIENCE FOR GUESTS MUST HAVE COMPLETED THE FORM FOR THIS PURPOSE AND PLACED IT ON THE DESIGNATED LOCATION PRIOR TO THE OPENING OF THE MEETING, MISS CANADA. DO WE HAVE ANYONE ADDITIONAL OTHER THAN THE TWO NAMES YOU'VE GIVEN ME? OKAY? UM, SO BEFORE WE BEGIN OUR MIND OUR AUDIENCE MEMBERS OF THE BOARDS PROCEDURES FOR HANDLING AUDIENCE FOR GUESTS. ANYONE INTERESTED TO SPEAK IN PERSON DURING AUDIENCE FOR GAS MUST HAVE COMPLETED THE FORM AND LISTED THE TOPIC THEY WISH TO DISCUSS. PRIOR TO THE START OF THE MEETING, EACH SPEAKER WILL BE ALLOWED TO SPEAK ONCE DURING AUDIENCE FOR GAS AND WILL BE ALLOWED A MAXIMUM OF THREE MINUTES TO ADDRESS THE BOARD DICTATED BY BOARD POLICY B E. [00:20:04]

HOUSE. I'M A OLD GERMAN TEACHER. SO I WANT TO SAY NO HOUSE NEW HOUSE. OKAY? JOHN NEUHAUS. GOOD EVENING. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR HAVING US. MY NAME IS JOAN NEWHOUSE. I'M THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF KICKSTART KIDS, AND I WAS THRILLED TO HEAR ABOUT YOUR DISCUSSIONS AND I THOUGHT A GREAT PRESENTATION WAS MADE OF OUR PROGRAM EARLIER IN THE EVENING. I WANTED TO LET YOU KNOW WE ARE CURRENTLY IN FIVE OF YOUR SCHOOLS BUSH, LONG FIELD, PERRY AND POLK MIDDLE SCHOOL. WE LOVE BEING THERE ARE INSTRUCTOR AT ONE OF THE INSTRUCTORS THAT SERVES THOSE MIDDLE SCHOOL WAS RECENTLY ELECTED OUR INSTRUCTOR OF THE YEAR FOR ALL OF NORTH TEXAS. I ALSO WANTED YOU TO KNOW WE HAVE OVER 8000 STUDENTS AND 14 SCHOOL DISTRICTS ACROSS THE STATE. WE CARRY ON AN ANNUAL STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT, WHICH WAS HELD ON SATURDAY. YOU HAD. UM OUT OF YOUR 465 STUDENTS . YOU HAD 90 COMPETE IN THE STATE CHAMPIONS. UH SHIP TOURNAMENT AND YOU HAVE 10 STATE CHAMPIONS. WE WOULD LOVE TO BRING THEM TO ONE OF YOUR MEETINGS IF YOU CARE TO CELEBRATE THEM, SO TO GIVE YOU A LITTLE BIT OF BACKGROUND ON KICKSTART KIDS, WE CAN BE EITHER A PE REQUIREMENT OR AN ENRICHMENT ACTIVITY. WE CELEBRATE OUR ATHLETES AS WE DO IN THE STATE TOURNAMENT, BUT WE DEAL WITH SO MUCH MORE THAN THAT WE ARE REALLY FOCUSED ON OUR CHARACTER CURRICULUM BECAUSE THE TOOLS THAT WE CAN GIVE THE STUDENTS WILL HELP THEM FOR LIFE . SO EACH MONTH WE FOCUS ON THE VALUE SUCH AS COURAGE, LOYALTY, RESPECT, DISCIPLINE, KINDNESS, AND WE HAVE FOUND THAT OUR PROGRAM HAS PREVENTED BULLYING. IT IS ENGAGED STUDENTS THAT DON'T OTHERWISE FIND THAT THEY HAVE A PLACE ON CAMPUS. UM 94% OF OUR STUDENTS SAY THAT THEY HAVE PLANS TO GO ON TO COLLEGE. THEY HAVE SEEN. WE'VE BEEN WITH OUR DATA. WE'VE BEEN ABLE TO SHOW THAT WE INCREASE GOAL SETTING THERE. THERE IS CONSISTENT GROWTH YEAR OVER YEAR AND THEIR MORAL SCORES. THEY SCORE VERY HIGH ON TEAMWORK, AND PARTICULARLY ARE RED AND BLACK BELTS SCORE. VERY HIGH INCOMPETENCE. UM, SO THAT'S ALL I HAVE TO SAY. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR LETTING US BE WITH YOUR CHILDREN AND STUDENTS. THANK YOU, MR NEWHOUSE. OUR SECOND SPEAKER IS MR WILLIAM JONES.

IN SEARCH OF SERIOUS ANSWERS TO THEIR SERIOUS QUESTIONS. HOW COULD A DONALD TRUMP FOLLOWED BARACK OBAMA INTO THE PRESIDENCY ? HOW COULD THE CANDIDATES HAVE AND ANGRY BIGOTS, THE CLANS CANDIDATE THE STOP AND FRISK CANADA, THE CANADA BORDER WALLS. THE CANDIDATE THAT SET A LATINO JUDGE CAN'T BE OBJECTIVE IN THAT AFRICAN AMERICANS AND HISPANICS IS LIVE IN HELL. A SUDDEN STORM OF TRUMP HAS UPROOTED SHOULD BE OPERATING BELIEFS IN THESE TWO TAILS. AMERICANS NEED A NEW RACIAL HISTORY ROOTED IN METICULOUS RESEARCH. THAT EXPLAINS THE CONFUSING PRESENT AND PREPARES THE NATION AND WORLD FOR THE RACIAL FUTURE AFTER TRUMP WHEN THE OBAMA'S OF THE NATION BROKE THROUGH RACIAL BARRIERS THAT TRUMP'S OF THE NATION DID NOT RETIRE TO THEIR SUNNIEST STATES IN FLORIDA THEY CREATED AND SOMETIMES SUCCEEDED IN PUTTING NEW AND MORE SOPHISTICATED BARRIERS IN PLACE LIKE THE GREAT GRANDCHILDREN OF JIM CROW VOTING LAWS. THE NEW AGE VOTER I D LAWS THAT ARE DISENFRANCHISING BLACK AMERICANS IN THE 21ST CENTURY. I AM WRITING THIS PREFERENCE ON THE EVE OF TRUMP'S 1/100 DAY IN OFFICE AS THE 45TH, PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES. BUT I AM LESS CONCERNED ABOUT TRUMP'S 1ST 100 DAYS OR LAST 100 DAYS FOR THAT MATTER THAN WHAT TRUMP'S ELECTION REVEALS ABOUT AMERICA'S RACIAL HISTORY. BARACK OBAMA COME CAME TO EMBODY AMERICA'S HISTORY OF RACIAL PROGRESS THAN DONALD TRUMP SHOULD COME TO EMBODY AMERICA'S HISTORY OF RACIST PROGRESS AND RACIST PROGRESS HAS CONSISTENTLY FOLLOWED RACIAL PROGRESS. EXPERT FROM THE PROLOGUE OF STAMPED FROM THE BEGINNING, THE THIS BOOK AND THE PREFIX CORRECTION. THE YOUNG ADULT VERSION OF THESE ARE AVAILABLE ON OUR SHELVES AS A MATTER OF FACT. READ FOR YOU. HIGH SCHOOL HAS THREE COPIES. HUMAN SMITH HIGH SCHOOL HAS THREE COPIES, TWO OF WHICH TRANSLATED INTO SPANISH CREEK HIGH SCHOOL, HAS THREE COPIES AS WELL AS A DIGITAL DOWNLOAD OF THE NEWS VERSION AND ARE ALL TURNER HAS THREE COPIES, INCLUDING THE DIGITAL DOWNLOAD VERSION LIKE TO READ FROM YOU REAL QUICK FROM SP THREE, A

TEACHER, ADMINISTRATOR OR OTHER EMPLOYEE OF A STATE AGENCY, SCHOOL DISTRICT OR OPEN ENROLLMENT. CHARTER SCHOOL MAY NOT TEACH, INSTRUCT OR TRAIN ANY ADMINISTRATOR, TEACHER OR STAFF MEMBER OF A STATE AGENCY, SCHOOL DISTRICT OR OPEN ENROLLMENT CHARTER SCHOOL TO ADOPT THE CONCEPT THAT AN INDIVIDUAL'S MORAL CHARACTER STANDING OR WORTH IS NECESSARILY DETERMINED BY THE INDIVIDUALS, RACER, SEX AND INDIVIDUAL BY VIRTUE OF THE INDIVIDUALS, RAZOR SEX BEARS RESPONSIBILITY FOR ACTIONS COME INTO THE PAST BY OTHER MEMBERS OF THE SAME RACE OR SEX AND INDIVIDUALS SHOULD FEEL DISCOMFORT, GUILT ENGLISH OR ANY OTHER FORM OF PSYCHOLOGICAL DISTRESS ON ACCOUNT OF THE INDIVIDUAL'S RACE OR SEX WITH RESPECT TO THEIR RELATIONSHIP TO AMERICAN VALUES, SLAVERY AND RACISM OR ANYTHING OTHER THAN DEVIATIONS FROM BETRAYALS OF, OR FAILURE TO LIVE UP TO THE AUTHENTIC FOUNDING PERSON PILLS AT THE UNITED STATES, WHICH INCLUDE LIBERTY AND EQUALITY. I BRING THIS UP BECAUSE WE HAVE THIS AND OTHER BOOKS IN THE LIBRARY IS AVAILABLE FOR OUR KIDS, INCLUDING BOOKS. OTHER BOOKS BY CANDY LIKE HOW TO BE AN ANTI RACIST MAY HAVE HEARD OF THAT ONE. THE REASON I TALKED ABOUT THIS ONE IN PARTICULAR IS BECAUSE THIS LAST FEBRUARY AS A CELEBRATION OF BLACK HISTORY MONTH THIS WAS A VERY SHORT.

THIS IS ON A VERY SHORT LIST OF RECOMMENDED READINGS TO UNDERSTAND AFRICAN AMERICAN CULTURE. THIS BOARD PROMOTED. THANK YOU, MR JONES. YOUR TIME IS UP. THANK YOU. ALRIGHT UM WE

[4. Non-Action Items for Discussion]

WILL MOVE NOW TO AGENDA ITEM NUMBER FOUR, WHICH ARE NON ACTION ITEMS FOR DISCUSSION. AH FOR A OR HEALTH SERVICES UPDATE . UM SO WE'LL TURN THIS OVER TO MS SANDRA LEAK.

DR ELDREDGE, DOCTOR BLACK, ESTEEMED BOARD MEMBERS. THANK YOU FOR THE OPPORTUNITY TO SHARE WITH YOU ABOUT OUR WORK THAT WE'VE COMPLETED THIS YEAR. SO DEPARTMENT OBJECTIVES FOR THE HEALTH SERVICES DEPARTMENT OR TO PROVIDE CARE TO MAXIMIZE TIME IN THE CLASSROOM. AH WE WANT TO MINIMIZE THE NUMBER OF STUDENTS THAT ARE SENT HOME AND NECESSARILY MITIGATE BARRIERS TO ACCESS TO HEALTHCARE, PROVIDE REFERRALS AND FOLLOW UP TO REDUCE ABSENCES AND LIMIT THE SPREAD OF COMMUNICABLE DISEASE WITHIN OUR SCHOOL COMMUNITY. SO I WANTED TO SHARE A FEW METRICS ABOUT OUR WORK THIS YEAR. SO AT THE TIME THAT I RAN THIS REPORT , APRIL 28TH WE HAD 86,606 VISITS IN OUR CLINICS. WE HAD 1045 STAFF CLINIC VISITS. UM E M S CALLS DUE TO MEDICAL EMERGENCIES WERE 130 SUBSTANCE ASSESSMENTS IN OUR SCHOOLS WERE TO 65. WE HAVE 933 STUDENTS THAT REQUIRE DAILY CARE WITHIN OUR CLINICS, AND THAT'S FOUR THINGS LIKE MEDICATION, ADMINISTRATION OR MEDICAL PROCEDURES, AND THEN WE HAD A NURSE EDUCATION SESSIONS FOR STAFF THAT'S PREPARING STAFF TO CARE FOR STUDENTS DURING FIELD TRIPS. UM THINGS LIKE NARCAN TRAINING UDC A TRAINING FOR A DIABETIC STUDENTS. EPINEPHRINE ADMINISTRATION THINGS OF THAT NATURE. WE HAD 139 OF THOSE SO FAR THIS YEAR. SO ONE OF THE MOST LABOR INTENSIVE THINGS THAT OUR DEPARTMENT COMPLETES DURING THE YEAR ARE THE STATE MANDATED HEALTH SCREENINGS. SO ON THE SLIDE THERE WE HAVE THIS SCREENINGS THAT THE STATE REQUIRES US TO COMPLETE WHERE REQUIRED TO COMPLETE VISION AND HEARING SCREENINGS ON ALL FOUR YEAR OLDS, ALL STUDENTS THAT ARE NEW TO OUR DISTRICT OF 1ST, 3RD, 5TH AND 7TH GRADERS. AND THEN WE COMPLETE SPINAL SCREENINGS ON GIRLS. DURING THE FALL SEMESTER OF 5TH AND 7TH GRADE AND THEN BOYS DURING FALL SEMESTER OF EIGHTH GRADE. WE ALSO ARE IN REGION 10 AND DUE TO OUR VERY DIVERSE POPULATION AND ARE HIGHER THAN AVERAGE RATES OF DIABETES. WE ALSO REQUIRED TO DO A SCREENING CALLED A CANTOS. ISN I CROW CANS? THAT'S A BIT OF A MOUTHFUL. BUT IT IS A MARKER ON THE BACK OF THE NECK, AND THERE'S SOME OTHER SCREENINGS. IF THEY'RE POSITIVE FOR THAT, THEN WE COMPLETE SOME FURTHER EVALUATION AND SEND THEM REFERRAL HOME FOR THOSE STUDENTS TO GET FURTHER EVALUATION. SO OUR NUMBERS THERE THAT WE HAVE COMPLETED SO FAR THIS YEAR AS OF APRIL 21ST OR THEY'RE ON THIS SCREEN, AND WE'VE SENT MEDICAL REFERRALS FOR STUDENTS WITH POSITIVE AND SIGNS. WE SENT 292

[00:30:03]

MEDICAL REFERRALS HOME THIS YEAR. SO UM, IT'S BELIEVED THAT VISION THAT LEARNING IS ABOUT 80% VISUAL. AND SO FOR THAT REASON WE REALLY WORK TO GET OUR STUDENTS APPROPRIATE VISION CARE AND GLASSES SO THAT THEY CAN SEE IN THE CLASSROOM. AND SO WE WORKED WITH ONE SITE TO, UM WE'VE COLLABORATED WITH THEM AND COMPLETED 16 CLINICS FOR OUR STUDENTS THIS YEAR, AND SO WE'VE HAD THUS FAR, 639 PAIRS OF GLASSES FOR FIRST TIME GLASSES, WEARERS AND, UM 39 HIGH INDEX PRESCRIPTIONS AND 31 STUDENTS NEEDED FURTHER EVALUATION AND WILL REFER. WE ALSO IN OUR DISTRICT ARE VERY BLESSED THAT WE HAVE SEVERAL STOCK MEDICATION , UM, AVAILABLE TO OUR STUDENTS , ONE OF WHICH IS STOCK ALBUTEROL. AND WE'VE ADMINISTERED THAT 84 TIMES SO FAR THIS SCHOOL YEAR AND THAT IS HELPFUL BECAUSE IT MINIMIZES THE NEED TO CALL 911 AND THE CAMPUS DISRUPTION THAT'S ASSOCIATED WITH THESE E M S CALLS. WE ALSO WERE BLESSED TO SAVE THE LIFE OF ONE STUDENT WITH EPINEPHRINE THIS YEAR. THAT STUDENT UM EXPERIENCED ANAPHYLAXIS. WE DON'T KNOW WHY AND THE STUDENT IS STILL GETTING FURTHER TESTING TO TRY AND DETERMINE WHAT CAUSED THAT REACTION. AND THEN NARCAN HAS SAVED THE LIVES OF THREE OF OUR STUDENTS THIS YEAR. ANOTHER TASK THAT WE COMPLETE IS CPR TRAINING FOR OUR STAFF. WE'VE COMPLETED 22 CLASSES AND TRAINED 338 STAFF MEMBERS THIS YEAR THAT THE PICTURE ON THE SCREEN IS A PICTURE OF A CLASS AT FREEMAN ELEMENTARY, AND WE STILL HAVE ONE MORE CLASS AT DAVIS ELEMENTARY, UPCOMING. SO DURING I THINK ABOUT THE TIME THAT COVID HIT WE STARTED, UM PARTICIPATING AS A PROVIDER AND THE TEXAS VACCINE FOR CHILDREN'S PROGRAM. AND SO THIS YEAR WE'VE ADMINISTERED AT OUR OFFICE. 400 ACTUALLY, I THINK THE NUMBER IS HIGHER NOW, BUT AT THE TIME THAT I RAN THE REPORT, IT WAS 476 VACCINES FOR OUR STUDENTS. AND IN ADDITION, WE HAVE ALSO COLLABORATED WITH THE DOCTOR SPOT AND PASSPORT HEALTH FOR ADDITIONAL VACCINE CLINICS TO PROVIDE FOR OUR FAMILIES. AND WE'VE CONTINUED WITH THE SCHOOL BASED TELEHEALTH PROGRAM. RESEARCH SHOWS THAT TELEHEALTH IMPROVES THE CARE OF CHRONIC CONDITIONS REDUCES SCHOOL ABSENTEEISM. IS COST EFFECTIVE AND APPROVES HEALTHCARE ACCESS FOR UNDERSERVED COMMUNITIES. SO AS OF APRIL, 21ST, WE'VE COMPLETED 105 REFERRALS. THROUGH CHILDREN'S HEALTH TELEHEALTH. SO WE CURRENTLY HAVE TELEHEALTH IN 10 AT 10 CAMPUSES, AND THEY'RE LISTED THERE ON THE SLIDE. UM METRO CHRIS HOSPITAL AUTHORITY HAS PROVIDED FUNDING FOR A PILOT PROGRAM TO PROVIDE MEDICAL ASSISTANT TO PROVIDE ADDITIONAL SUPPORT TO OUR NURSES SO THAT WE CAN UTILIZE, UH, CHILDREN'S HEALTH TELEHEALTH MORE EFFECTIVELY MOVING FORWARD, AND SO WE'RE REALLY EXCITED ABOUT THAT. WE ALSO AS A DISTRICT SERVE AS A CLINICAL SITE FOR TEXAS WOMEN'S UNIVERSITY. FOR THEIR COMMUNITY AND PUBLIC HEALTH, CLINICAL ROTATIONS FOR THEIR UM, NURSING PROGRAM. AND THAT'S BEEN A REALLY GOOD, AH, RATE RECRUITING TOOL FOR US BECAUSE WE'VE HAD SEVERAL OF THOSE TW NURSING STUDENTS END UP COMING BACK AND WORKING FOR OUR DISTRICT. SO I'M EXCITED TO SAY THAT THE FBI SD IMPLEMENTS BEST PRACTICES BY HAVING A REGISTERED NURSE ASSIGNED TO EVERY TRADITIONAL CAMPUS AND THIS IS CONSISTENT WITH RECOMMENDATIONS BY NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF SCHOOL NURSES AND THE AMERICAN ACADEMY OF PEDIATRICS. AND IN CONCLUSION COLLABORATION BETWEEN EDUCATORS, FAMILIES AND SCHOOL NURSES PROMOTES HEALTHY CHILDREN AND STRONG COMMUNITIES AND GOOD HEALTH IS A SOLID FOUNDATION FOR EXCELLENCE IN THE CLASSROOM. THANK YOU. MISS LEE. BOARD MEMBERS. QUESTIONS, COMMENTS. MS GARZA ROSS. PROUD TW ALUM OVER HERE, SO HE NURSES THE OPPORTUNITY. UM REGARDING THE VACCINES ARE THOSE ALL VACCINES THAT ARE PROVIDED OR SPECIFIC VACCINES? THEY ARE THE SPECIFIC VACCINES REQUIRED BY THE STATE OF TEXAS FOR SCHOOL ATTENDANCE, AND WE OFFER THOSE SO THAT WE

[00:35:04]

CAN EXPEDITE ENROLLMENT AND GET OUR STUDENTS IN THE CLASSROOM AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE. BENAVIDEZ.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR REPORT ON THE CPR STAFF CLASSES IS THAT HELD OR TAUGHT BY THE FIRE DEPARTMENT . OR IS THAT ON SITE STUFF THAT YOU JUST SO THE STAFF CLASSES ARE TAUGHT BY NURSES? UM WE DO THE AHH AMERICAN HEART ASSOCIATION COURSES. UM I BELIEVE THE FIRE DEPARTMENT HAS BEEN VERY INSTRUMENTAL IN HELPING TO TEACH THE STUDENT CLASSES. THANK YOU, UM, ON THE 105 REFERRALS TO CHILDREN'S HEALTH IS THAT JUST A LOCAL PEDIATRICIAN THE CHILDREN GO TO OR SO IT'S A DONE THROUGH TELEHEALTH. SO WE HAVE THE EQUIPMENT AT THOSE 10 CAMPUSES SO THEY CAN SEE A PEDIATRICIAN DURING THE SCHOOL DAY. OF COURSE WITH PARENTAL PERMISSION. UM JUST ELEKTRONIK, LEE AND. THEY THEN CAN RECEIVE WHATEVER THEY NEED. IF THEY NEED ANTIBIOTICS FIRST SAY THEY HAVE STREP THROAT IF THEY HAVE FLU IF THEY HAVE ANY NUMBER OF COMMUNICABLE ISSUES AND THE PHYSICIAN CAN PRESCRIBE WHATEVER MEDICATION IS NEEDED. AND ALSO WE USE IT A LOT FOR OUR ASTHMA ACTION PLANS BECAUSE WE HAVE A LOT OF STUDENTS THAT HAVE ASTHMA, AND THEY DON'T HAVE A PHYSICIAN. THEY USED THE ER AND WE NEED. YOU KNOW, THEY NEED MEDICATION.

THEY NEED TO BE MANAGED PROPERLY SO THEY CAN STAY IN SCHOOL. AND SO WE USE IT A LOT FOR THAT. IN ONE LAST QUESTION ON THE TW NURSES PROGRAM. IS THAT THROUGH BIOMED? NO MA'AM. IT'S ACTUALLY A TEXAS WOMEN'S UNIVERSITY PROGRAM THERE IN THEIR BACHELOR'S DEGREE PROGRAM, BUT WE SERVE AS A CLINICAL SITE. THANK YOU. WELCOME. MR ERIC. MISLEAD THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING YOUR TEAM IS DOING. I FULLY RECOGNIZE THAT CFB IS AT THE FOREFRONT OF DOING WHAT'S BEST PRACTICE FOR OUR STUDENTS TO KEEP THEM IN SCHOOL. UM THAT'S A HUGE COMMITMENT FOR YOUR DEPARTMENT. IT IT'S NOT TO BE UNRECOGNIZED FOR SURE. WE ALL OF THESE THINGS THAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT ARE NOT THINGS THAT EVERY OTHER SCHOOL DISTRICT IN NORTH TEXAS IS DOING. AND THOSE THINGS ARE MAKING THE DIFFERENCE TO KEEP OUR KIDS IN SCHOOL, WHICH IS OUR ULTIMATE GOAL, SO I WANT TO APPLAUD YOU AND THE ENTIRE TEAM FOR ALL OF THE WORK THAT GOES BEHIND THIS, BECAUSE THIS DOES NOT HAPPEN EASILY. IT'S NOT MAGIC. UM BECAUSE I CAN FULLY SEE HOW I DON'T EVEN KNOW THAT WE CAN CAPTURE DATA TO KNOW FOR SURE. LIKE HOW MANY HOSPITALIZATIONS WE'VE PREVENTED . BUT FOR SURE THIS WORK IS PREVENTING KIDS FROM HAVING ASTHMA FLARE UPS THAT THEN GET THEM HOSPITALIZED, AND NOW THEY'VE MISSED A DAY OF SCHOOL FOR THAT OR OTHER CONDITIONS THAT MAYBE THEY DIDN'T KNOW THAT THAT THEY HAD THAT WERE ABLE TO GET ON TOP OF QUICKLY AND KEEP THOSE KIDDOS IN SCHOOL BECAUSE THE MORE DAYS THAT THESE KIDS CAN BE IN SCHOOL, THE BETTER. WE DON'T WANT THEM IN THE HOSPITAL, SO YOUR TEAM IS DOING AMAZING WORK TO PREVENT THAT. SO PLEASE , PLEASE LET THEM KNOW HOW HUGE THIS IS AND THAT IT REALLY DOES MAKE A DIFFERENCE. I DO WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT WITH THE METRO CREST HOSPITAL AUTHORITY GRANT PROGRAM THAT'S SPONSORING THE EMAS ON CAMPUSES FOR THE ONES THAT ARE OFFERING THE TELEHEALTH PROGRAMS. DO YOU FEEL LIKE DO WE HAVE THE SUPPORT WE NEED THROUGH THAT GRANT OPPORTUNITY TO HAVE THE BODIES NEEDED ON CAMPUSES TO HELP US RUN THAT PROGRAM EFFICIENTLY. HAVING ENOUGH SUPPORT HAS BEEN A CHALLENGE. I THINK WE STARTED WITH IT RIGHT AROUND THE TIME COVID HEAD AND SO WE DIDN'T REALLY HAVE MAYBE AS MUCH TECHNICAL SUPPORT NEEDED TO FULLY UTILIZE THAT, AND I THINK CHILDREN'S IS RECOGNIZING THAT SO THEY'RE LOOKING AT FUNDING TO M A S TO ROTATE BETWEEN THOSE CAMPUSES AND PROVIDE THOSE NURSES WITH ADDITIONAL SUPPORT. OKAY SO YOU FEEL LIKE AT THIS POINT, UM, THAT TELEHEALTH OPPORTUNITY ON CAMPUSES IS BEING MAINTAINED TO DO IT TO SERVE ITS PURPOSE. I MEAN, I THINK WE CAN DO BETTER, AND I THINK THAT'S WHY CHILDREN'S IS COMING FORWARD WITH THIS THIS OPPORTUNITY. UM BUT I THINK THAT THAT, UM IF WE CAN SHOW THE DATA THAT THIS ADDITIONAL SUPPORT MAKES A DIFFERENCE THAN OF COURSE, THAT THAT HELPS TO JUSTIFY IT. AND HOPEFULLY WE WILL SEE, YOU KNOW FURTHER. FURTHER SUPPORT. OKAY. OKAY. VERY GOOD. THANK YOU.

THANK YOU. ANY FURTHER QUESTIONS . COMMENTS MISS HATFIELD. THANK YOU FOR THE INFORMATION SUPER IMPORTANT ON THE CHILDREN'S TELEHEALTH. HOW DO PARENTS FIND OUT LIKE IF THEY GET A CALL FROM THE SCHOOL NURSE THAT SOMETHING'S WRONG? HOW DO THEY FIND OUT THAT THAT'S EVEN SOMETHING THAT COULD BE AN OFFERING TO THEM? THAT'S UM FOR THE CAMPUSES THAT HAVE THAT EQUIPMENT AVAILABLE. THAT'S A PART OF ONLINE ENROLLMENT. THEY'RE NOTIFIED THAT THAT'S AN OPPORTUNITY AND SO THEY CAN CONSENT OR NOT AT THAT POINT. SO THEN WHEN THE NURSE CONTACTS THEM, THEN SHE REMINDS THEM THAT THAT IS AVAILABLE AND ASK IF THAT IS SOMETHING THEY'RE

[00:40:02]

INTERESTED IN. AND THEN IF THEN THEY CAN SAY YES OR NO AND MOVE FORWARD. BRADY MISS BRADY. I'M SORRY. I'M FASCINATED WITH THE TELEHEALTH AT SCHOOL. LIKE I WAS TRYING TO FIGURE OUT HOW YOU'RE USING THAT THAT'S SO AWESOME. ARE THEIR PARENTS CHARGED FOR THAT? OR IS THAT JUST HOW DOES THAT WORK IF THEY HAVE INSURANCE OR MEDICAID THAN THAN CHILDREN'S BUILDS THEM THROUGH THAT, IF THEY DON'T THEN THERE IS A 37 50 CHARGE, WHICH IS SIGNIFICANTLY LESS THAN THEY WOULD HAVE ANYWHERE ELSE SO AND WE DON'T DEAL WITH ANY OF THE BUILDING CHILDREN'S DOES THAT DIRECTLY WITH THE PARENT. AND HAS THAT DISCUSSION BEFORE WE MOVE FORWARD WITH THE VISIT.

EXCELLENT AND SO THEN THE PEDIATRICIAN WILL JUST ORDER THE MEDS FROM WHATEVER PHARMACY AND THE PARENTS AND THEY USE THE MEDICAID FORMULARY, SO THEY ALWAYS PRESCRIBE THE MOST COST EFFECTIVE AVAILABLE FOR THE PARENTS AND THE STUDENTS. EXCELLENT. THAT'S REALLY GREAT.

THANK YOU. YOU'RE WELCOME. ANY OTHER COMMENTS, QUESTIONS? THIS LEAGUE. THANK YOU. SO MUCH FOR THE PRESENTATION AND THANK YOU FOR ALL THE WORK YOU'RE DOING OUT THERE AND YOUR TEAM. I JUST WANT TO ECHO WHAT WHAT MR DEREK SAID, UM, IT'S MORE IMPORTANT NOW THE WORK YOU'RE DOING IS MORE IMPORTANT. NOW I THINK THAT IT'S EVER BEEN, AND IT'S ALWAYS BEEN VERY IMPORTANT. SO THANK YOU. UM AND PLEASE SHARE OUR GRATITUDE WITH THE TEAM. OKAY. THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR SUPPORT.

OKAY WE'RE GOING TO MOVE NOW TO ITEM FOUR B, WHICH IS A REPORT ON OUR RESTORATIVE PRACTICES AND OUR FIVE THAT DRIVE. I'M GONNA TURN THIS OVER TO DR HAMLIN AND JOE GUILLEN.

THANK YOU, DR ELDREDGE, DR BLACK AND ESTEEMED BOARD MEMBERS. NEW THINKING NEW PRACTICE AND NEW RESULT. BEFORE I TELL YOU ABOUT THE WONDERFUL THINGS THAT ARE HAPPENING IN THE DISTRICT, I MUST RECOGNIZE MRS LYNNE TORRES . A TRUE TRAILBLAZER. LYNN, WOULD YOU STAND UP? A TRUE TRAILBLAZER WITH ALL OF OUR WORK. THANK YOU, LYNN. I'M EXCITED TONIGHT TO TALK ABOUT RELATIONSHIPS, CONNECTEDNESS. AND THE ABILITY TO FEEL A SENSE OF BELONGING. ALTHOUGH WE ARE INDIVIDUALS WE ARE WIRED TO DEPEND ON EACH OTHER. AND SUPPORT EACH OTHER. TO IDENTIFY WITH OUR STUDENTS IN THE DISTRICT AND REALLY FEEL A SENSE OF CONNECTIONS. I'M GOING TO ASK ALL OF YOU TO THINK ABOUT A TIME WHEN YOU WERE REALLY HURT AND WANTED OR NEEDED TO RESTORE A RELATIONSHIP. PERHAPS IT WAS WITH A CHILD, A FRIEND, A SIGNIFICANT OTHER OR A SPOUSE.

MAYBE IT WAS DIFFICULT TO KNOW HOW TO GO ABOUT MENDING THE RELATIONSHIP. IT FELT AWKWARD.

IT WAS THE UNKNOWN. AND IT WOULD HAVE BEEN GREAT TO HAVE THE SKILLS TO KNOW HOW TO DO THAT.

AND C F B. WE ARE TEACHING OUR STUDENTS A WAY OF INTERACTING IN ORDER TO HAVE A POSITIVE RESULT.

THREE RESTORATIVE PRACTICES. WE ARE GUIDING AND TEACHING HOW TO REPAIR. WE WANT OUR STUDENTS TO KNOW HOW TO FORM POSITIVE RELATIONSHIPS AND KEEP THEM. HOW TO RESPECT OTHERS. AND HOW TO SOLVE CONFLICT WHEN IT OCCURS. THIS IS RESTORATIVE PRACTICES. WE CAN'T DO LIFE ALONE. WE NEED OTHER PEOPLE. LEARNING HOW TO GET ALONG HOW TO CONNECT, KNOWING WHAT TO SAY AND DO IS ESSENTIAL. MY HUSBAND AND I HAVE A BLENDED FAMILY, WHICH MEANS EACH OF US HAS AMAZING BONUS CHILDREN. THE PICTURE ON THE SCREEN IS OUR 6 20 YEARS AGO. ALL OF US CAME FROM A PLACE OF BROKENNESS AND RESTORING WAS THE NAME OF THE GAME WITHOUT EVEN KNOWING IT. ELEMENTS OF LISTENING. BEING RESPECTFUL SHARING, TAKING TURNS CONFLICT RESOLUTION. ALL OF THESE THINGS HAD TO BE LEARNED AND NEEDED TO HAPPEN WITH OUR FAMILY OF EIGHT TO LIVE AND FLOURISH WITH ALL THE DIFFERENT PERSONALITIES AND NEEDS. EACH DAY. OUR HOME WAS JUST LIKE A CLASSROOM. IT WAS A DAILY CRASH COURSE IN MANAGEMENT. AND THINKING ABOUT OUR SCHOOLS. WE KNOW THAT THE

[00:45:07]

ROOM IS FILLED WITH CHILDREN FROM DIFFERENT PLACES WITH THEIR INDIVIDUAL STORIES. THE SPECIAL TASK WE LAY BEFORE OUR TEACHERS IS TO CONNECT OUR STUDENTS MEET THEM WHERE THEY ARE. AND BUILD A COMMUNITY, MUCH LIKE A FAMILY. THIS SO IMPORTANT, WHETHER IN OUR HOME FAMILIES OR OUR SCHOOL FAMILIES TO DO THINGS WITH EACH OTHER INSTEAD OF TO EACH OTHER. THIS MEANS COMING ALONGSIDE OUR STUDENTS TO DEVELOP THE SKILLS NEEDED TO BE SUCCESSFUL WHEN THEY LEAVE US AND JOURNEY INTO THIS BIG, BRIGHT AND BOLD WORLD. SO WHAT DOES RESTORATIVE LOOK LIKE IN OUR SCHOOLS? WHY'RE STUDENTS AND TEACHERS DRAWN TO THESE PRACTICES? WHEN YOU LOOK AT THE PHOTOS ON THE SCREEN, YOU CAN SEE THAT THESE SPACES ARE CALMING. THEY PROVIDE A PLACE TO RESET AND PROCESS. WE ALL NEED THAT. WHETHER YOU'RE SEVEN YEARS OLD OR 70 YEARS OLD. ONE OF THE BIGGEST CHALLENGES WITH YOUNG PEOPLE IS LEARNING HOW TO SELF REGULATE. POST PANDEMIC. HAS PRESENTED ADDITIONAL CHALLENGES FOR US WITH MENTAL HEALTH. AND THE NEED TO TEACH RESTORATIVE SKILLS. SO YOU MIGHT ASK WHAT IS SELF REGULATION? THE ABILITY TO RECOGNIZE ONE'S EMOTIONS AND ACHIEVE AN INNER BALANCE. IT'S THE GREATEST GIFT WE CAN GIVE OUR STUDENTS, IT DEVELOPS A SENSE OF PURPOSE AND PROVIDES HOPE. WE KNOW LEADING A SCHOOL IS BOTH CHALLENGING AND REWARDING. HERE ARE A FEW QUOTES FROM OUR CAMPUS LEADERS ABOUT THE RESTORATIVE WORK. IT HELPS BUILD AND RESTORE RELATIONSHIPS AND ALLOWS OUR STUDENTS TO HAVE A VOICE. IT HAS BECOME A CRUCIAL ELEMENT OF OUR CAMPUS. IT ALLOWS STUDENTS A SPACE TO WORK RESTORATIVE LEE WITH A TRAINED INDIVIDUAL. THE RESTORATIVE QUESTIONS ARE THE FOUNDATION OF THIS PROCESS. THE FOCUS MOVES TO HOW OTHERS MAY HAVE BEEN AFFECTED AND WHAT WE CAN DO TO MAKE THINGS RIGHT. THE WORK IS GOOD FOR STAFF. IT'S GOOD FOR STUDENTS. AND IT HAS A LONG TERM POSITIVE EFFECT ON THEIR FUTURES. OUR ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT, DR LANCE HAMLIN , WHO HAS BEEN INSTRUMENTAL IN IMPLEMENTING THIS THROUGHOUT THE DISTRICT WITH FIDELITY IS GOING TO SHARE THE STEPS THAT HAVE BROUGHT US HERE. THANK YOU, MR DILLON. ALRIGHT SO I GET AN OPPORTUNITY HERE TO KIND OF WALK YOU THROUGH OUR TIMELINE WITH RESTORATIVE PRACTICE AND IT'S REALLY ABOUT WHERE WE WERE. WHERE WE ARE AND WHERE WE WANT TO GO. AS YOU CAN SEE, HERE IN 2018. WE HAD A LIMITED IMPLEMENTATION. WE HAD FOUR OUT OF SIX MIDDLE SCHOOLS THAT IT WAS A CAMPUS BASED DECISION DECIDED TO HAVE A RESTORATIVE PRACTICES. IN 19 2020. I CALL THAT THE REACTIVE PHASE. THE DISTRICT. AS A DISTRICT WE TRAINED SOME A P S. WE TRAINED SOME PRINCIPLES. WE TRAINED SOME COUNSELORS. AND WE TRAINED SOME BEHAVIOR RESOURCE SPECIALIST. AND RECRUIT. WE CREATED A POSITION CALLED RESTORATIVE INTERVENTIONISTS. IN 2000. 21 22. I KIND OF COINED THAT THE PROACTIVE PHASE. DURING THIS PHASE. WE WANTED TO LOOK AT THE DATA. THAT WE HAD REGARDING. THE RESTORATIVE PRACTICES IN 1920 2021. AND WHAT WE SAW WAS WE HAD A LOT OF CONCERNS JUST BEING TRANSPARENT, REALLY AT THE TEACHER LEVEL. BECAUSE THE STUDENT WOULD GO TO RESTORATIVE INTERVENTIONIST. AND THEY WOULD SPEND TIME AND THEY WOULD COME BACK TO THE CLASSROOM. NOT A LOT OF INFORMATION WAS GOING BACK TO THE TEACHER AND I DO BELIEVE SOME LETTERS AND EMAILS WERE SENT TO BOARD MEMBERS BACK THEN WHAT IS REALLY GOING ON RESTORATIVE PRACTICE, SO WE WANTED TO MAKE SURE BASED ON DATA THAT TEACHERS WERE PART OF THE PROCESS. BECAUSE IN 19 2020. THEY WERE NOT PART OF THE PROCESS. SO WE REALLY WANTED TO MAKE SURE THAT WAS GOING TO BE IN PLACE. THEN WE TRANSITIONED THE RESTORATIVE INTERVENTIONIST INTO A POSITIVE ACTION CENTER SPECIALIST. THE BIG CHANGE.

[00:50:07]

THERE IS WHEN STUDENTS GO TO THE POSITIVE ACTION CENTER SPECIALISTS THEY COULD GO FOR AS LITTLE AS HALF A DAY. OR THEY COULD ACTUALLY BE THERE FOR UP TO FIVE DAYS. IT IS. CONSIDERED IN SCHOOL SUSPENSION SETTING. AND WE WANTED TO ALSO PULL IN ALL OF OUR A P S. I SHOULDN'T SAY ALL OR A PS SOME PRINCIPLES, THE COUNSELING DEPARTMENT. AND RESTORATIVE SPECIALISTS TO CREATE WHAT WE CALL THE PACK GUIDELINES BELIEVE YOU HAVE A COPY. THAT YOU'RE IN FRONT OF YOU. THEN WE'RE IN 2022 23. AND THAT SHIFT IN FOCUS. WE WANTED TO MAKE SURE WE TRAINED OUR TEACHERS. SO THIS YEAR ALONE WE HAVE TRAINED 400 TEACHERS. WITHIN THE RESTORATIVE PRACTICE FRAMEWORK. WE HAVE ALSO SOUGHT. PRINCIPAL FEEDBACK AS WELL AS THE TEACHERS THAT HAVE BEEN TRAINED FEEDBACK THIS YEAR. AND ALSO WE'RE GOING TO AT THE END OF THIS YEAR. GO BACK AND LOOK AT ALL OF OUR PROCESSES AND PROCEDURES TO MAKE SURE THAT IF WE NEED TO MAKE SOME TWEAKS IN THE PROCESS IN THE SYSTEM, THEN WE'LL DO THAT AS WELL. OUR GOAL FOR THE 24 25 SCHOOL YEAR IS WE WANT EVERY TEACHER, THEY HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO BE TRAINED. THAT'S GOING TO BE HUGE FOR US.

AND ONCE AGAIN, WE'RE GOING TO KEEP THAT PRINCIPLE, FEEDBACK AND TEACHER FEEDBACK.

OPPORTUNITY THERE AS WELL. THE PICTURE OF THE FIRST PICTURE OF YOUR C ON TOP THERE THAT IS ACTUALLY A RESTORATIVE SESSION, ONE OF THE TRAINING THAT THE TEACHERS GO THROUGH. AND AS YOU CAN SEE THERE IN A CIRCLE. WHEN THEY ACTUALLY WALK INTO THE ROOM THERE IMMEDIATELY IMMERSED IN A RESTORATIVE CIRCLE SETTING THEY ARE NEVER OUT OF THE CIRCLE FOR TWO DAYS. SO THEY GET AN OPPORTUNITY TO EXPERIENCE THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF CIRCLES. THE PICTURE ON THE BOTTOM IS WAS LAST YEAR DURING OUR IN SERVICE TRAINING FOR OUR NEW TEACHERS AT OUR NEW HIRES. AND WE SPENT AN HOUR AND A HALF. THEN ROTATIONS WITH NEW TEACHERS COMING INTO THE DISTRICT. WE WENT OVER REAL QUICK, QUICK. TRAINING SESSION WITH RESTORATIVE PRACTICE AND CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT. NOW, REALLY? WHAT DOES THE DATA SAY? IN 2021 22. YOU CAN SEE THAT WE TOUCHED 3100 STUDENTS. THROUGH RESTORATIVE ACTIONS, AND I SAY RESTORATIVE ACTIONS BECAUSE AT THAT TIME IF YOU REMEMBER WE HAD RESTORATIVE INTERVENTIONIST, SO KIDS DID NOT GO THERE. THE ENTIRE DAY OR HALF A DAY. THEY WENT. AND RECEIVE SOME TOOLS AND STRATEGIES FOR THEM BE ABLE TO COPE THROUGH THE THINGS THAT ARE GOING THROUGH THE THROUGHOUT THE DAY AND THEN GET BACK TO CLASS. IN 22 23. IS WHEN WE HAD THE THIS YEAR. THE POSITIVE ACTION CENTER SPECIALISTS SO STUDENTS HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY TO GO TO THE CLASS FOR ONCE AGAIN, UP TO A HALF DAY OR EVEN UP TO FIVE DAYS. THE BIG DIFFERENCE HERE IS THAT WE HAVE THIS AT ALL SECONDARY CAMPUSES. BUT THIS YEAR, WE ADDED FOUR PILOT ELEMENTARY'S BASED ON DISCIPLINE DATA FROM LAST YEAR. SO THIS WAS NOT OFFERED AS A PACK SETTING FOR ANY ELEMENTARY'S LAST YEAR. BUT WE DO HAVE THE FOUR THAT WE'RE DOING THIS YEAR AND HAS BEEN VERY SUCCESSFUL. AND THEN WE WANTED TO SEE IF THERE'S A CORRELATION BETWEEN OUR D A P PLACEMENTS. AND WHAT WE'RE SEEING IN THE CLASSROOM IN RESTORATIVE PRACTICES. YOU CAN SEE THAT THE DATA FOR A D D A P PLACEMENTS FOR 2018 19. PRIOR TO COVID. WE HAD 566 STUDENTS THAT WENT TO THE AP. OF THOSE 566. WE HAD 54% OF THOSE WERE FOR ACTS OF AGGRESSION. OKAY AND THEY WERE REALLY APOLOGIZE. THEY WERE 54% OF THOSE KIDS WERE THEREFORE MANDATORY PLACEMENTS, WHICH COULD BE VIOLENCE COULD BE HAD THAT WEAPON OR DRUG USE. OR SALT. UH, AND OF THOSE TOTAL PLACEMENTS. AH! 32% WERE FOR ACTS OF VIOLENCE. IN 21 22. YOU SEE, THE NUMBER DROPS SIGNIFICANT BUT ONCE AGAIN WE'RE JUST COMING BACK FROM COVID. IF YOU REMEMBER THAT THAT FALL, WE HAD THE TEMPORARY ONLINE OPTION . WE DIDN'T HAVE A LOT OF THE KIDS IN THE BUILDINGS, ESPECIALLY AT THE SECONDARY LEVEL. WE MUST SHOW THAT WE WERE SUPPOSED TO HAVE 1800 KIDS AT ONE CAMPUS, BUT REALLY ABOUT 900 WALKING THE HALLS, SO OUR NUMBERS REALLY TOOK A BIG HIT.

SO THAT THAT YEAR THE DATA TO ME DOESN'T REALLY SUPPORT WHAT WE REALLY WANT TO SEE. SO THAT'S WHY THAT NUMBER IS EXTREMELY LOW. BUT EVEN THAT WE HAD 57% OF OUR STUDENTS WERE AP FOR A MANDATORY PLACEMENT AND 35% OF THE TOTAL PLACEMENTS WHERE FOR ACTS OF AGGRESSION. THIS YEAR ALONE, UP TO LAST WEEK ON APRIL 26TH WE HAD 332 PLACEMENTS AT E. OF THOSE PLACEMENTS 69% FOR

[00:55:05]

MANDATORY REASONS. THAT'S A HUGE JUMP. BUT WE ACTUALLY SHOWED SOME IMPROVEMENT IN THE ACTS OF AGGRESSION. ONLY 28% OF OUR PLACEMENTS ARE FOR ACTS OF AGGRESSION. THE SHEET THAT YOU HAVE IN FRONT OF YOU IS THE PACT GUIDELINES. THIS PROCESS TO ME WAS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT WHEN WE CREATED THIS DOCUMENT. BECAUSE IT WASN'T JUST STUDENT SERVICES CREATING THIS DOCUMENT. WE CALLED IN A P S. THE COUNSELING DEPARTMENT. THE CRISIS DEPARTMENT. WE HAD. STUDENT SERVICES, AND WE ALL CAME TOGETHER AND WE WANTED TO FIND OUT EXACTLY HOW WE CAN CREATE A DOCUMENT TO HELP US KNOW EXACTLY WHAT BEHAVIORS WOULD GET YOU INTO A PACKED SETTING. AND WHAT WE REALLY WANTED TO DO IS MAKE SURE WE WEREN'T SENDING KIDS THERE THAT WE'RE SLEEPING IN CLASS. AUTHORITIES THOSE TYPE OF THINGS WE WANTED KIDS TO GO TO THIS OPPORTUNITY THAT REALLY NEEDED TO REPAIR THE RELATIONSHIPS THAT MS GUILLEN TALKED ABOUT EARLIER. WHAT WE'VE SEEN THROUGHOUT THE YEAR IS EVERYBODY WANTS TO BE TOUCHED BY OUR PACT SPECIALIST AND R A P S AND OUR PRINCIPLES. WANT THOSE KIDS TO HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY? SO IT'S I S S SO WE'RE HAVING A LOT OF KIDS GO THROUGH AS YOU SAW THE 4800 THIS YEAR ALONE. UH BUT WHAT'S REALLY IMPORTANT ABOUT THIS DOCUMENT ALSO IS WE WANTED TO MAKE SURE IF A STUDENT'S GO INTO THE PACK SETTING EVERYONE IN THAT BUILDING KNOWS THE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS KID. YOU SEE THAT WE HAVE ADMINISTRATOR ACTIONS WHAT THE ADMINISTRATOR RESPONSIBLE TO DO. WE HAD THE PACT SPECIALIST ACTIONS. AND THEN WE HAVE THE CAMPUS STAFF THAT INCLUDES THE COUNSELORS, THE VRS. AND THE CLASSROOM TEACHERS BECAUSE A BIG DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A PACK PLACEMENT AND THE OLD I S S PLACEMENT. WE EXPECT TEACHERS TO FUNNEL THROUGH THE CLASSROOM. THROUGHOUT THE DAY. SO IF I'M IN THAT PACK CENTER AS A STUDENT, THEN MY MATH TEACHER'S COMING IN TO CHECK ON ME. MY SCIENCE TEACHER IS COMING AND CHECK ON ME. SO MY TEACHER ACTUALLY ENGAGED IN WHAT I'M DOING THERE.

I'M JUST NOT GONE FOR THREE OR FOUR DAYS. THEY STILL HAVE THAT RELATIONSHIP GOING ON, WHICH HAS BEEN VERY IMPORTANT. AND WE ALSO HAVE THE STUDENT AND PARENT EXPECTATIONS. WE WANT OUR PARENTS TO KNOW. THAT THEIR THEIR CHILD'S GOING TO THE PACK CENTER AND WE ACTUALLY HAD ACTUALLY HAD THEM SIGN OFF THAT THEIR STUDENTS GO IN THERE, SO IT'S EXTREMELY IMPORTANT THAT WE KEEP THE FAMILIES INVOLVED AS WELL. NOW IT'S TIME TO HEAR FROM OUR EXPERTS. WE HAVE. MISS JACKIE ANDREWS FROM CREEK VIEW HIGH SCHOOL, MR DAVID DIEGO'S FROM FIELD MIDDLE SCHOOL. GOOD EVENING. RESTORATIVE CIRCLES. MEDIATIONS. CHECK IN CIRCLES. MINDFULNESS. TRANSITION CIRCLES.

THESE ARE A FEW OF THE TOOLS OF MY TRADE. WE'RE USING RESTORATIVE PRACTICE TO REFRAME HOW WE RELATE TO STUDENTS, ESPECIALLY IN THE AREA OF DISCIPLINE. MOVING FROM THE TRADITIONAL, MORE PUNITIVE APPROACH WHERE WE ARE FOCUSED ON WHAT WE DO TO STUDENTS. TWO MORE POSITIVE APPROACH THAT FOCUSES ON BUILDING RELATIONSHIPS WITH STUDENTS. THAT ALLOWS. FOR US TO SHIFT OUR GOAL FROM PUNISHMENT TO CHANGE BEHAVIOR. CIRCLES ARE POWERFUL TOOL. THEY CAN FOCUS ON CONFLICT RESOLUTION. GOAL SETTING SELF DISCIPLINE. POSITIVE ATTITUDES.

RESPONSIBILITY. ACCOUNTABILITY. AND CHANGE BEHAVIOR. RESTORATIVE CIRCLES ARE GUIDED SOLUTION BASED DIALOGUES WHERE WE TEACH STUDENTS THE SKILLS TO RESOLVE CONFLICT. BETWEEN FRIENDS, SOMETIMES FRENEMIES. TEAMMATES. SOMETIMES BETWEEN TEACHERS AND STUDENTS. BY SAYING THINGS FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF OTHERS. STUDENTS ARE BETTER ABLE TO UNDERSTAND. THE CHOICES HAVE HOW THEIR CHOICES IMPACT OTHERS. TRANSITION CIRCLES OR HOW WE WELCOME STUDENTS BACK FROM ALTERNATIVE SCHOOL PLACEMENTS. TO OFFER SOME SUPPORT. AND ENCOURAGEMENT. AND THE REMINDER . THAT MEETING THE EXPECTATIONS IS THE KEY TO THEIR SUCCESS. MINDFULNESS WAS THE HUGE SURPRISE FOR ME THIS YEAR. I WOULD HAVE NEVER GUESSED. THAT LEARNING HOW TO PAUSE. AND BE PRESENT IN THE MOMENT. WOULD BE SO TRANSFORMATIVE. USING SIMPLE TOOLS. LIKE BREATHING EXERCISES.

POSITIVE AFFIRMATIONS. WOULD BE WOULD ALLOW STUDENTS TO SEE THEMSELVES. FROM A NEW

[01:00:08]

PERSPECTIVE. RESTORATIVE PRACTICE BEGINS IN THE CLASSROOM. CHECK IN CIRCLES. OR A WONDERFUL TOOL THERE, QUICK AND EFFECTIVE. FOR TEACHERS TO BE ABLE TO CHECK THE TEMPERATURE. LET'S TRY IT. WELL, THE SHOW OF HANDS FIVE BEING TERRIFIC AND ONE BEING TERRIBLE.

HOW IS YOUR WEEK GOING SO FAR? FOR MY FOURS AND FIVES. I'M SO GLAD YOU'RE HAVING AN AWESOME WEEK. FOR MY THREES, UM, WATCHING FOR MY ONES AND TWOS. I WOULD LOVE TO VISIT WITH YOU AFTERWARDS. IS ANY OF THIS MAKING A DIFFERENCE WITH STUDENTS. YES. AND THIS IS HOW I KNOW. THEY COME BACK. TO SHARE THEIR SUCCESSES. THEY TRY TO SKILL THAT THEY LEARNED AND IT WORKED. THAT THEY'RE STRUGGLING, AND THEY NEED SOME SUPPORT. AND THEY DRAGGED THEIR FRIENDS INTO MEET ME. AND SHARE WHAT WE DO. THEIR FEEDBACK. FROM THEIR PACK EXPERIENCE REFLECTIONS. TELLS ME THAT WE ARE HEADED IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION. RESTORATIVE PRACTICES WORKING SOMETIMES ONE STUDENT AT A TIME. BUT THEN THEY BECOME THE RIPPLES AS I GO BACK OUT INTO THE HALLWAYS AND CLASSROOMS USING AND SHARING THE SKILLS THAT THEY'VE LEARNED. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR TIME AND ATTENTION. GOOD EVENING. I AM HERE TO SHARE. AH WITH YOU AS A MY EXPERIENCE AS A RESTORATIVE PACS SPECIALIST AND HOW I BELIEVE THAT. RESTORATIVE PRACTICES ARE HIGHLY EFFECTIVE IN THE SCHOOL COMMUNITY AND CAN HELP IN THE COMMUNITY AT LARGE. RESTORATIVE PRACTICES. UH THEY THEY OBJECTIVE IS TO DEVELOP. AND RESTORE RELATIONSHIPS AND BUILD COMMUNITY BY EXERCISING THE PRINCIPLES OF LOVE AND CARE. ACCEPTANCE. UNDERSTANDING. FORGIVENESS RESPECT. TOLERANCE.

PATIENCE AND GRACE. STUDENTS WHO ARE. WHO HAVE EXPERIENCED THE PRACTICE ARE ABLE TO RECONCILE DIFFERENCES. REKINDLE FRIENDSHIPS AND. INTRODUCE OTHERS TO THE PRACTICE WHEN THEY LEARN CONFLICT RESOLUTION PRINCIPLES. BUT. HOW DOES RESTORATIVE HELP OUR SOCIETY? I BELIEVE THAT STUDENTS THAT HAVE BEEN EXPOSED TO RESTORATIVE SKILLS. THEY LEARNED THE PRINCIPLES AND WILL APPLY THEM. THROUGHOUT THEIR LIVES. PARENTS ARE ALSO BEING EXPOSED. TO RESTORATIVE PRACTICES. RECENTLY. RECENTLY I FACILITATED A TEACHER. STUDENT MEDIATION WITH THE PARENT PRESENT. AND WHEN I ASKED THE STUDENT WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU SHOULD DO OR SAY TO MAKE THINGS RIGHT? THE TEACHER JUMPED IN AND APOLOGIZE, FIRST SAYING I WAS A PART OF THE OF THE CONFLICT. WHAT THE STUDENT APOLOGIZE TO THE TEACHER. THEY BEGAN A FRESH. START IN THEIR IN THEIR RELATIONSHIP. ON THE WAY OUT. THE PARENTS SHARE WITH ME. THANK YOU. FOR HELPING OUR SON TO BUILD GOOD CHARACTER. ONE FINAL THOUGHT. RESTORATIVE WORK. TAKES TIME. TO HAPPEN. WE MUST BELIEVE IN IT. AND BE PERSISTENT IN DOING IT. DO NOT GIVE UP ON OUR KIDS. THANK YOU. THANK YOU, DAVID AND JACKIE AS A FINAL THOUGHT. LEADING RESEARCHER IN EDUCATION, DR ROBERT MARZANO SAYS IT WELL. THE RELATIONSHIP MATTERS. WE WANT TO TEACH OUR STUDENTS STRATEGIES FOR RELATING WELL, WE'VE WATCHED OUR STAFF CONTINUE TO GROW ALONGSIDE OUR STUDENTS. WITH RESTORATIVE PRACTICES, AND WE LOOK FORWARD TO NEW THINKING NEW PRACTICES AND NEW RESULTS. SO THREE

[01:05:04]

TAKEAWAYS FOR TONIGHT. RESTORATIVE PRACTICES. IT'S A PROCESS IT'S GOING TO TAKE TIME TO SEE THE RESULTS IN THE DISCIPLINE DATA. ALL CFB STAFF MEMBERS WILL BENEFIT FROM RESTORATIVE TRAINING. AND FINALLY. ADMINISTRATORS AND TEACHERS REPORT A POSITIVE IMPACT. ON OUR DISTRICT CULTURE. THANK YOU. THANK YOU TO ALL FOUR OF YOU. THANK YOU FOR THAT PRESENTATION. I WANNA ASK BOARD MEMBERS AND I SEE MR PROJECTS HAND UP, SO I'M GOING TO GO TO HER FIRST, MR BOSTIC. THANK YOU . I MEAN FOR THE WORK AND, UM, THE INFORMATION. UM SO ON THE DATA AND THEN, UM. YOU KNOW WHAT I TAKE AWAY AND CORRECT OR CLARIFY ANYTHING I SAY. DON'T HESITATE, UM, BUT IS HELPING STUDENTS LEARN THESE SKILLS SO THEY ARE BETTER EQUIPPED FOR FUTURE SITUATIONS THAT ARE ON THIS. PACK PLACEMENT GUIDELINES IN QUESTION ONE RIGHT? I MEAN, THAT'S WHAT THIS PROGRAM AND BECAUSE YOU KNOW ALL OF US, PROBABLY AS PARENTS HAVEN'T YOU KNOW, DONE SOME GREAT JOB. OKAY JOB OR NOT A GREAT JOB AT HOME, RIGHT? I MEAN, IT'S HELPING THE WHOLE CHILD. CORRECT. THAT'S WHERE WE ARE. SO ON THE DATE. I MEAN, THERE'S NUMBERS YOU KNOW ARE ARE ARE GOOD. AND I HEAR YOU, JOE ON. IT'S A PROCESS AND FOR IMPROVEMENT IN DISCIPLINE AND SEEING THAT IMPROVEMENT IN DISCIPLINE. BUT I THINK, UM YOU KNOW THE HAVING THE DATA TO SHOW UM WIND IN SITUATION WHERE STUDENTS ARE REPEAT. REPEAT, UM . I DON'T WANT TO ATTEND A TENDER OR PARTICIPANTS MAY BE IN THE IN THE PACK. I MEAN, THAT'S WHERE WE WANT TO SEE IT RIGHT.

WE WANT TO SEE THAT THEY'RE NOT COMING BACK, EXCEPT FOR LIKE, JACKIE SAID, TO SHARE STORIES OF SUCCESS OR INTRODUCED FOR IT. I MEAN, THAT'S WHEN YOU WANT TO SEE HIM BACK. I MEAN, I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHERE, YOU KNOW WHAT DOES THE DATA SHOW FOR THAT ? ARE WE PREVENTING THEM FROM BEING BACK AS A UM WHAT'S THE RIGHT WORD PARTICIPANT OR OKAY IN HOPE THAT MAKES SENSE. UM IT DOES. IT DOES, AND I BELIEVE WE'RE RIGHT ABOUT 24% OF THE KIDS DO COME BACK, UH, WHICH ON THE FLIP SIDE IS 76% OF THEM DOUBT SO I THINK THAT'S VERY POSITIVE. I DO ALSO THINK THAT IT'S REALLY HELPED US REDUCE THE NUMBER OF OUT OF SCHOOL SUSPENSIONS USING THE PACK PLACEMENTS BECAUSE I THINK THAT'S EXTREMELY IMPORTANT AS WELL. BECAUSE ONCE AGAIN WHEN THEY'RE IN THE PACK PLACEMENT, THEY HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY TO HAVE A TEACHER WITH THEM THROUGHOUT THE DAY, NOT ONLY THE SPECIALIST, BUT OUR TEACHERS ARE ACTUALLY COMING IN AND MAKING SURE THEY'RE STAYING UP ON THEIR WORK. WHAT WE DO KNOW IS KIDS THAT ARE NOT IN SCHOOL. THEIR GRADES GO DOWN AND BEHAVIOR IS ALWAYS A KEY FACTOR IN THAT, SO WE WANTED AN OPPORTUNITY TO ACTUALLY KEEP THEM IN THE BUILDING AS WELL. SO IS THE PROCESS DIFFERENT FOR THOSE 24% THAT IS COMING BACK OR THEIR CHANGES IN HOW YOU HANDLE THAT? I MEAN, TWEET. WHAT? WHAT WHAT'S NEXT FOR THOSE STUDENTS SO THAT WE CAN HELP THEM? YES. SO THOSE STUDENTS THAT ARE REPEAT. MANY TIMES. THOSE STUDENTS WANT TO COME BACK THERE FOR ALL OF THE SUPPORT AND ATTENTION, AND SO THE GOAL IS FOR THE PACT SPECIALIST TO WORK WITH OUR COUNSELING TEAM AND OUR CRISIS COUNSELORS ON HOW HELPING THOSE INDIVIDUAL STUDENTS THAT WE SEE THAT KEEP COMING BACK HELP THE CLASSROOM TEACHER WITH STRATEGIES TO HELP KEEP THAT STUDENT IN CLASS. AND REALLY ASSESS WHAT'S GOING ON. SO YES, THE GOAL IS TO HAVE THE STUDENT GO ONE TIME, THEN BE ABLE TO RETURN TO CLASS AND, UM, BE PARTICIPATORY IN THEIR CLASSROOM , BUT WE KNOW THAT SOME STUDENTS WILL REPEAT. BUT THE GOAL IS TO GET THEM BACK INTO THE CLASSROOM AND HELP THE TEACHER WITH STRATEGIES THE STUDENT WITH STRATEGIES SO THEY CAN STAY IN THE CLASSROOM. IS IT AN ACCURATE STATEMENT TO SAY JUST LIKE WE DO WITH OUR ACADEMICS, YOU KNOW BY NAME AND NEED THAT FOR THESE STUDENTS, ITS NAME AND YES, YES . AND SO WE DO. UM, AT THE CAMPUS IS NO. THE STUDENTS BY NAME AND NEED, UM AT THE SECONDARY LEVEL. WE HAVE OUR GRAD TEAMS WHERE WE UNDERSTAND STUDENTS, STORIES AND WHAT THEY'RE GOING THROUGH AND THEIR THEIR PARTICULAR PLACEMENTS.

[01:10:04]

WHETHER IT'S IN PACK OR RESTORATIVE OR D A E P AND SO AT THE AT THE ELEMENTARY LEVEL PRINCIPLES AND COUNSELORS ARE TALKING ABOUT THOSE STUDENTS AND HOW BEST TO HELP THEM. SO THOSE INDIVIDUAL PLANS IF YOU WILL ABOUT HOW TO SUPPORT THE STUDENTS, SO THAT THEY CAN BE SUCCESSFUL ACADEMICALLY, BUT WE KNOW THEY'RE GOING TO LEARN IF THEY CAN BEHAVE. AND IF THEY FEEL GOOD ABOUT WHAT THEY'RE DOING, FEEL GOOD ABOUT THEMSELVES. AND THAT'S THE GOAL OF THE RESTORATIVE WORK IS TO HELP THEM HAVE A SENSE OF PURPOSE, A SENSE OF BELONGING AND TO FEEL GOOD ABOUT WHO THEY ARE SKILLS COMPLETELY VALID. WE SHOULD ALL BE ABLE TO DO. YEAH COMPLETELY. YES THANK YOU. I WANT I WANT TO ADD ONTO THAT THIS YEAR. WE DO HAVE ANOTHER THING IN PLACE THAT WE HAVE OUR STUDENT SERVICES DIRECTORS DR PAT FRANKLIN AND BRENDA LACROIX . THE FIRST WEEK OF EVERY MONTH. THEY ACTUALLY GO AND MEET WITH ADMINISTRATION COUNSELORS AS WELL, AND THEY TALK ABOUT THE MONTH THE DISCIPLINE AND THEY AND THEY ACTUALLY TALK ABOUT THE REPEATERS. AND WHAT PLAN DO YOU HAVE FOR THE DISTRICT? PETER SO IT IT. IT IS AN ACTIVE PART OF EVERY AGENDA WHEN WE VISIT AT THE CAMPUS LEVEL EVERY MONTH. THAT'S SOMETHING THAT'S NEW, AND IT'S A VERY IN DEPTH CONVERSATION, AND IT GOES OVER VERY MANY, MANY THINGS, BUT IT'S ABOUT ANY TYPE OF DISCIPLINARY PLACEMENTS, INCLUDING PACKED PLACEMENTS AND THE REPEATERS. SO THAT IS SOMETHING THAT IT'S WE'RE REALLY, REALLY DIVING INTO IT THIS YEAR. THANKS PERFECT.

OKAY, THAT'S IT. THANKS, MISS BENAVIDEZ. TAKING IT TO ANOTHER LEVEL. FROM WHAT MR BOCEK SHARED . UM THE CHART SHOWS A BIG INCREASE IN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL FROM 21 22 22 23. AND THINKING ABOUT THE REPEATER CHILDREN AND GIVING THEM ALL THE TOOLS THEY NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL. IS THERE ANY DATA SHOWING IF THOSE CHILDREN REPEAT THEIR BEHAVIOR AND MIDDLE SCHOOL BECAUSE OF THE JUMP? WELL SO AND I WOULD ASSUME THAT THIS SLIDE YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT, AND I JUST WANTED TO REMIND US THAT THE 21 22 SCHOOL YEAR WE DID NOT HAVE PACKED SPECIALIST ON THE FOUR PILOT CAMPUSES. SO THAT'S WHY YOU SEE THE JOB BECAUSE WE DIDN'T HAVE A PACT SPECIALISTS ON ANY ELEMENTARY CAMPUS, BUT THIS YEAR WE DO SO THAT MEANS INSTEAD OF RECEIVING, UH OUT OF SCHOOL SUSPENSIONS. THEY'RE ACTUALLY HAVING AN OPPORTUNITY TO STAY AT SCHOOL WITH THE PACT SPECIALISTS AND WORK THROUGH THOSE BEHAVIORS , BUT I WILL SAY AT THE ELEMENTARY LEVEL, THIS IS BRAND NEW AND WE DO HAVE A HIGHER PERCENTAGE. I DON'T HAVE IT WITH ME OF THE REPEATERS. FOR NOW, BUT IT'S NEW. THANK YOU. MR ERIC. ACTUALLY SET ME UP PERFECTLY FOR MY QUESTIONS. SO THANK YOU BECAUSE I WANTED TO ASK ABOUT THE ELEMENTARY DATA. DO WE HAVE ANY PRELIMINARY INFORMATION ABOUT WHAT IT'S LOOKING LIKE ON THOSE FOUR CAMPUSES? WELL. I WILL SAY THAT THIS IS REALLY OUR BASELINE YEAR BECAUSE ONCE AGAIN WE HAVE NOT HAD RESTORED PRACTICE SET UP THE WAY IT IS BECAUSE WE TEACHERS HAVE NEVER BEEN TRAINED. SO AN IMPORTANT THING THAT I DON'T THINK WE'VE MENTIONED YET. REALLY IS THAT 80% OF THE CIRCLES ARE PROACTIVE. AND THAT'S WHERE THE TEACHER COMES IN. SO AND THAT'S WHY I COINED THE PAST COUPLE OF YEARS AS REACTIVE BECAUSE THE ONLY TIME THEY GOT A RESTORATIVE, UH, OPPORTUNITY WAS WHEN THEY HAD ALREADY DONE SOMETHING. UH BUT THAT 80% THAT WE ACTUALLY HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY NOW TO TAKE CARE OF IN THE CLASSROOM. I DO BELIEVE THAT WE'RE GOING TO BE ABLE TO SEE AFTER ALL OF THIS YEAR'S DATA THAT WE'RE GOING TO HOPEFULLY SEE SOME IMPROVEMENT. BUT THIS IS OUR BASELINE YEAR FOR HAVING RESORTED PRACTICES IN THE CLASSROOM BECAUSE IT HASN'T HAPPENED BEFORE. WE HAVE PLANS IN PLACE TO EXPAND TO EVERY ELEMENTARY. WE'RE LOOKING AT ALL OF THE DATA TO SEE EXACTLY WHERE WE NEED IT SO THAT CONVERSATION IS ONGOING. BUT ONCE AGAIN ONCE WE GET INTO JUNE, AND WE WILL LOOK AT ALL THE DISCIPLINE DATA FOR THE ENTIRE DISTRICT BY CAMPUS, THEN WE'LL HAVE THAT CONVERSATION. BUT IT'S ALWAYS ON THE TABLE. OKAY ANYTHING THAT'D BE INTERESTING TO SEE BECAUSE I HAVE TO BELIEVE THAT A LOT OF WHAT WE'RE SEEING IN SECONDARY IS PROBABLY FROM TRAUMA THAT WAS EXPERIENCED IN THE ELEMENTARY AGES. AND IF WE CAN GET AHOLD OF THESE KIDDOS SOONER AND START TEACHING THOSE PRACTICES. I THINK IT WOULD PAY DIVIDENDS IN THE LATER YEARS, SO I CAN TELL YOU THAT YOU KNOW THE CAMPUSES THAT DO HAVE IT VERSUS THE CAMPUS THAT DON'T EVEN IF I CAN'T AT THE MOMENT CAMPUS DIDN'T HAVE A WHOLE LOT OF DISCIPLINE CONCERNS, BUT THEY HAVE FEW. THEY STILL WANT A BACK SPECIALIST. SO YEAH, IT'S GOOD WORK. I MEAN, I THINK YOU ARE DOING A GREAT JOB AND THANK YOU TO BOTH OF YOU THAT ARE BOOTS ON THE GROUND FOR PRESENTING TONIGHT. YEAH. MOVE TO THIS SIDE. UM ANY COMMENTS QUESTIONS, MISS HATFIELD. THANK YOU FOR THE PRESENTATION. THE DATA IS VERY HELPFUL TO SEE AND HEARING THE STORIES FROM Y'ALL AND REALLY THE WORK THAT YOU DO IS INCREDIBLE. IT'S IMPORTANT FOR KIDS. I'M I'M REALLY CURIOUS AS

[01:15:05]

WE TRANSITION KIDS FROM ELEMENTARY TO MIDDLE SCHOOL IF YOU'RE SEEING THIS MANY INCIDENTS AND YOU'RE SEEING MORE REPEATERS TO SEE HOW THE JOURNEY IS GOING TO TAKE US THROUGH THE SUMMER AND HOW WE'RE GOING TO TRANSITION AND REALLY SUPPORT THOSE KIDS GOING INTO MIDDLE SCHOOL IF WE ALREADY KNOW THEY HAVE THAT CHALLENGE. BECAUSE WE KNOW ELEMENTARY SCHOOL TRANSITION IS SO IMPORTANT AS I'M EXPERIENCING IT MYSELF. SO THANK YOU ALL. THE COMMENTS QUESTIONS AND SAID, ACTUALLY, I'M SORRY. ALL I HAVE A COUPLE OF QUESTIONS THAT I WANT TO ASK, UM AND DR HAMILL AND THESE ARE PROBABLY QUESTIONS FOR YOU, UM AND REALLY, IT'S JUST I THINK IT'S IMPORTANT TO CLARIFY YOU MENTIONED. THE PERCENTAGE OF THE AP PLACEMENTS THAT WERE MANDATORY. AND YOU TALKED ABOUT SOME OF THE THINGS THAT ARE THAT ARE CONSIDERED MANDATORY PLACEMENT. YOU TALKED ABOUT DRUG OFFENSES, UM, ALCOHOL OFFENSES, UM, CRIMINAL OFFENSES, VIOLENT OFFENSES AND THOSE SORTS SO I THINK IT'S IMPORTANT THAT WE POINT OUT THAT THE STATE STILL DOES MANDATE THAT D AP PLACEMENT HAPPENS WHEN SOME CERTAIN SERIOUS MISBEHAVIORS AND EXPULSION FOR REALLY, REALLY SERIOUS MISBEHAVIORS. AND SO WHAT? WE'RE TALKING ABOUT MAKING A DIFFERENCE HERE WITH OUR OUR OUR THE LOWER LEVEL BEHAVIORS, WHICH ARE MUCH MORE FREQUENT AND OFTEN DRIVE THE TEACHERS MUCH MORE CRAZY BECAUSE THEY'RE HAPPENING. YOU KNOW, FREQUENTLY AND IN THE CLASSROOM, SO I GUESS MY QUESTION I WILL GET TO A QUESTION IS WHEN YOU TALK ABOUT THE PERCENTAGE OF THE AP PLACEMENTS. THAT ARE MANDATORY PLACEMENTS GETTING HIGHER. CAN YOU EXPLAIN EVERYONE? WHY WHY DO YOU THINK THAT'S A GOOD THING? BECAUSE A LOT OF PEOPLE WILL THINK. OH MORE. D AP PLACEMENTS MANDATORY PLACEMENTS. WE WANT THAT NUMBER TO GO DOWN, BUT IT GOING UP IS A GOOD THING. IT'S SHOWING THAT WHAT WE'RE DOING IS WORKING RIGHT? ABSOLUTELY AND I THINK REALLY WERE I WAS FOCUSING ON IS THE THOSE DISCRETIONARY PLACEMENTS AND THEN THE PLACEMENTS THAT ARE BASED ON EITHER VERBAL OR PHYSICAL AGGRESSION BECAUSE THAT'S REALLY WHERE THOSE BROKEN RELATIONSHIPS ARE WITHIN OUR STUDENTS, AND THE DATA SHOWS THAT WE WENT FROM 37 TO 35 NOW, 28% SO WHEN WE GET MORE OF THE MANDATORY PLACEMENTS AND OVERALL PLACEMENTS, BUT ARE ACTS OF AGGRESSION, WHETHER THEY'RE VERBAL OR PHYSICAL HAVE SEEMED TO BE GOING DOWN, AND THAT'S REALLY BIG. I WILL ATTRIBUTE TO SOME OF THE RESTORATIVE WORK. OKAY UM, A COUPLE OTHER QUESTIONS. YOU ALREADY HAVE THE MOTHER QUESTION WILL ACTUALLY YOU'VE ALREADY ANSWERED. YOU THINK SUSPENSIONS ARE ALSO MOVING DOWNWARD AS WELL OUT OF SCHOOL SUSPENSIONS.

ABSOLUTELY WE WE'VE DEFINITELY SEEN THAT BECAUSE ONCE AGAIN WE'RE TRYING TO KEEP KIDS IN AND NOW TRANSPARENCY OR IN SCHOOL SUSPENSION ARE GOING UP BECAUSE OBVIOUSLY PACK IS IN SCHOOL SUSPENSION. SO UM, MY LAST QUESTION IS, UM. IT HAS TO DO WITH SPECIAL EDUCATION, AND YOU TALKED ABOUT TEACHERS COMING IN AND OUT OF THE CENTER DURING THE DAY. IS THIS SOMETHING THAT WE CAN USE? WE CALL THEM SMART IN SCHOOL SUSPENSIONS. ESPECIALLY STUDENTS. STUDENTS ARE SERVED UNDER SPECIAL AD CAN SPEND TIME IN THE CENTER WITHOUT BEING CONSIDERED QUOTE OUT OF PLACEMENT OR NO AS LONG AS THE PERCENTAGES RIGHT ON SPECIAL ED STUDENTS VERSUS NON SPECIALIZED STUDENTS, BUT WE DID HAVE, AND I DID NOT MENTION THAT EARLIER, BUT ESPECIALLY WAS PART OF OUR COMMITTEE AS WELL, SO THEY'RE DIRECTLY INVOLVED IN EVERYTHING WE'RE DOING WITH PACK. OKAY, GOOD. ALRIGHT, WELL, THAT THAT'S ALL MY QUESTIONS. ANYTHING ELSE FROM ANYONE. THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR INFORMATIVE PRESENTATION. WE APPRECIATE YOUR TIME. THANKS. UM. OKAY WE'RE GONNA MOVE TO

[5. Consent Agenda]

AGENDA ITEM NUMBER FIVE, WHICH IS CONSENT AGENDA. IT'S A MECHANISM THAT THE BOARD USES TO APPROVE A NUMBER OF ROUTINE ITEMS TOGETHER WITH SINGLE VOTE. IN COMPLIANCE WITH THE TEXAS OPEN MEETING, ACT, OPEN MEETINGS ACT. THE PUBLIC NOTICE FOR THIS MEETING INCLUDES THE LIST OF ALL CONSENT AGENDA ITEMS, AND THE BOARD HAS BEEN PROVIDED AMPLE INFORMATION ABOUT THESE ITEMS AND EVENTS. PRIOR TO ANY ACTION TAKEN ON THE CONSENT AGENDA. BOARD MEMBERS MAY REQUEST THE WITHDRAWAL OF INDIVIDUAL ITEMS FOR CLARIFICATION OR DISCUSSION. BOARD MEMBERS. ARE THERE ANY ITEMS THAT NEED TO BE REMOVED FROM THE CONSENT AGENDA AT THIS TIME? OKAY? SO UM, HEARING NONE AND SEEING NONE BOARD MEMBERS TO HAVE A MOTION REGARDING THE CONSENT AGENDA. MR BOCEK. I MOVE THAT WE APPROVE THE CONSENT AGENDA AS PRESENTED, AND WE HAVE A MOTION FOR MR BOSTIC TO APPROVE THE CONSENT AGENDA AS PRESENTED AS THEIR 2ND 2ND FROM MISS BRADY. IS THERE ANY DISCUSSION? OKAY ALL THOSE IN FAVOR POLICE SHOW BY RAISING THEIR HAND. C SEVEN HANDS RAISED

[01:20:01]

ALL OPPOSED BY A VOTE OF SEVEN IN FAVOR AND ZERO POSED THE CONSENT AGENDA CARRIES. SO WE

[6. Items for Discussion and/or Action]

WILL REMOVE NOW. MOVE NOW. EXCUSE ME TO AGENDA ITEM SIX, WHICH WHICH ARE ARE ITEMS FOR DISCUSSION AND OR ACTION. UM AND UM, SIX. A IS ALWAYS ITEMS REMOVED FROM CONSENT, AND WE HAD NONE SO WE'LL MOVE TO SIX B. WHICH IS TO CONSIDER IMPROVED PURCHASE OF PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT FOR DISTRICT AND CAMPUSES FOR 2023 2024, MS PEREZ, TURN THIS OVER TO YOU. A LITTLE ABOUT OUR PROPOSAL FOR PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT FOR THE YEAR 2023 2024 IN RESPONSE TO OUR GROWING NUMBER OF EMERGENT BILINGUALS. WE'VE PUT IN A THREE YEAR PLAN. SO THIS BEGAN OUR THREE YEAR PLAN AND WE HAD TO TRAININGS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR HELD DISTRICT WIDE ON SHELTERED INSTRUCTION. WE ALSO ASKED TURNER AND SMITH HIGH SCHOOL TO PARTICIPATE, AND SO THEY HELD.

UM SHELTERED INSTRUCTION PD AT THEIR CAMPUSES WITH THEIR FULL STAFF AND THEN HAD FOLLOW UP COACHING FOR THIS IMPLEMENTATION . IN THE SPRING, WE DECIDED TO SEND A GROUP OF MATH TEACHERS AND MATH COACHES TO SAMPLE ONE OF THE CONTENT BASED EMERGENT BILINGUAL PDS. AND THEY CAME BACK ON FIRE, READY TO TRY THINGS AND IMPLEMENTING ALL OF THEIR NEW LEARNING. SO ALTHOUGH WE WERE REACHING A FEW TEACHERS AND REALLY BUILDING IT UP IN ORDER TO BUILD A SYSTEMIC FOUNDATION. WE REALLY NEED TO TAKE IT DISTRICT WIDE FULL SCALE , SO THIS PROPOSAL WOULD ALLOW.

FOR EVERY TEACHER, PRE K THROUGH 12 TO ATTEND A FULL DAY P D AT THE BEGINNING OF THE YEAR AND THE CONTENT OF THEIR AREA FOCUSING ON EMERGENT BILINGUALS NOW THIS WILL ALSO INCLUDE BRINGING ON FOR NEW CAMPUSES TO CONTINUE THE WORK WITH THE SHELTERED INSTRUCTION THIS WOULD BRING ON SHEFFIELD ELEMENTARY DAVIS ELEMENTARY, LONG METAL SCHOOL AND PERRY MIDDLE SCHOOL, AND THEY WOULD HAVE THE SHELTERED INSTRUCTION TRAINING AT THEIR CAMPUS. FULL STAFF WITH THE FOLLOW UP COACHING AS WELL. SO THIS IS SOMETHING THIS PD JUST REALLY HAS THE POTENTIAL TO COMPLETELY CHANGE THE FOUNDATION OF THE ARE TEACHING OF EMERGENT BILINGUALS THESE CONTENT BASED TRAININGS. ARE FOCUSED ON THE CONTENT BUILDING. THE ACADEMICS AND EXTENDING THE LANGUAGE THROUGH THAT CONTENT AREA WITH TRAINERS THAT ARE SPECIALIZED IN THESE AREAS WITH OUR GROWING NUMBERS, WE KNOW THAT THIS IS SOMETHING THAT WE NEED. WE ARE CURRENTLY AT 39% EMERGENT BILINGUALS IN OUR DISTRICT. OKAY, UM I APOLOGIZE. I SHOULD HAVE REFERRED TO YOU AS DR PEREZ . NO NO, NOT YET. OKAY WE HAVE A SEMESTER LIST. OKAY, I'M A LITTLE PREMATURE. ALRIGHT OKAY.

ARE THERE QUESTIONS COMMENTS FROM THE BOARD? MISS HATFIELD. SO YOU MENTIONED THAT IT WAS BEING USED AT SMITH AND TURNER FOR LAST YEAR. SO WHAT DATA DO WE HAVE ON THE EFFECTIVENESS FROM WHAT WE'VE ALREADY DONE? THAT'S HELPING US DETERMINE THAT WE NEED TO MOVE FORWARD WITH THE DISTRICT WIDE IMPLEMENTATION. SINCE IT IS OUR BASELINE YEAR. WE DON'T HAVE ANY QUANTITATIVE DATA. I HAVE PLENTY OF QUALITATIVE DATA. I HAVE QUOTES THAT I'M HAPPY TO SHARE FROM SOME OF THE TEACHERS AND COACHES THAT HAVE ATTENDED ALSO, WE DON'T GET OUR TELL THAT TELL PAST DATA. UNTIL JUNE, AND SO WE WON'T BE ABLE TO SEE ANY OF THAT , UM, QUANTITATIVE DATA UNTIL MUCH LATER. OKAY SO YOU MENTIONED THERE WAS A THREE YEAR PLAN. YES, WE GONNA IF THIS IS OUR BASELINE, HOW ARE WE GOING TO MEASURE? THE SUCCESS IS THAT INCLUDED IN THE THREE YEAR PLAN, SO WE'LL BE LOOKING AT IT EACH YEAR. BUT LOOKING AT DATA POINTS SUCH AS TELL PASS MAP IS ALSO INCLUDED THERE WE'RE LOOKING AT . SO WE HAVE, UM WE HAVE A DISTRICT COMMON FORMATIVE ASSESSMENT BASED ON SPEAKING THAT WE'VE IMPLEMENTED THIS YEAR TO GO WITH THIS, AND SO WE CAN SEE A LITTLE BIT OF GROWTH THERE , BUT IT DOESN'T HIT ALL OF OUR AREAS YET WITH TELL PASS AND MAP OR STAR IN ORDER TO FULLY YOU KNOW, BE ABLE TO CLAIM THAT SO WE'D BE LOOKING AT ALL OF THESE AREAS, ALONG WITH JUST SOME TEACHER FEEDBACK AND. EVALUATIONS THROUGH THAT. IS THIS GOING TO BE A PART OF THE DISTRICT IMPROVEMENT PLAN FOR THIS YEAR? I BELIEVE IT'S INCLUDED ON THERE UNDER DOMAIN. THREE. OKAY, GREAT. THANK YOU. MISS BRADY. SO I SEE THAT WE'RE

[01:25:07]

GOING TO BRING IT TO THE OTHER SCHOOLS. SO HOW MANY TEACHERS ON EACH CAMPUS WILL BE TRAINED IN THIS? SO IN AUGUST. EVERY CONTENT TEACHER SO ABOUT 1300 TEACHERS WILL RECEIVE A FULL DAY TRAINING AND THEIR CONTENT SO THEN AT IN THEIR CONTENT AREA AS PERTINENT TO BUILDING LANGUAGE, AND THEN THOSE FOUR SCHOOLS WOULD RECEIVE THE SHELTERED INSTRUCTION. SO THAT WOULD BE EVERY TEACHER ON THOSE FOUR CAMPUSES. EVERY TEACHER. THANK YOU. OTHER QUESTIONS, MR BASSETT. UM A FULL DAY TRAINING IS THIS AFTER SCHOOL STARTS ARE THESE POOR POLAND TEACHERS OUT OF THE CLASSROOM, SO IN ORDER TO KEEP TEACHERS FROM LEAVING THE CLASSROOM AND TO CUT DOWN ON SUBSTITUTES, WE HAVE ASKED EVERY PRINCIPLE, UH, AND THEY HAVE AGREED TO GRACIOUSLY ALLOWED THE ONE OF THE FIRST DAYS WHEN THE TEACHERS COME BACK. ONE OF THOSE FULL DAYS WOULD BE, UM WITH THIS P. D. OKAY SO THIS IS BEFORE STUDENTS IT WOULD BE AUGUST 7TH 8TH AND 9TH. OKAY? AND IF I MISSED IT, I APOLOGIZE. I'M ASSUMING THERE'S A COST TO RELATED TO THIS, WHEREAS WAS IT MENTIONED OR WHERE IS THAT? KEEP SCROLLING DOWN. THE COST WOULD BE COMPLETELY COVERED BY TITLE AND ARE BILINGUAL ALLOTMENT. IT WOULD NOT BE USED. WE WOULD NOT BE USING LOCAL FUNDS AND R B E A ALLOWANCES. I CAN ONLY BE USED FOR PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT. DO YOU FIND IT, LADS? IT WAS NUMBER. I'M GOOD, IF THAT'S WHAT YOU WILL SAY. IT'S ON THAT. JUST ON MY WIFE CAN'T FIND IT ON MY VERSION. THAT'S FUNNY. ANY OTHER QUESTIONS, COMMENTS FROM BOARD MEMBERS. OKAY? OUTWAIT. MS GARZA ROJAS HAS A QUESTION. YES THANK YOU FOR GIVING US ALL THAT INFORMATION. WHY IS THIS PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT NEEDED? IF WE LOOK BACK AT OUR NUMBERS, FOR EXAMPLE, UM, FOUR YEARS AGO , WE WERE STANDING AT ABOUT 7 TO 8000 EMERGENT BILINGUALS WE RECEIVE ABOUT 5 TO 800 NEWCOMERS A YEAR THAT NUMBER HAS BEEN STEADILY INCREASING. THIS YEAR. WE ARE ONLY IN THE FIRST WEEK OF MAY AND WE ALREADY HAVE 1087 NEWCOMERS WERE STANDING AT 9775 EMERGENT BILINGUALS. THAT'S 39.5% OF OUR STUDENT BODY WITH AN INCREASING NUMBER OF OUR EMERGENT BILINGUALS. WE ALSO ARE RECEIVING MANY STUDENTS WHO ARE CONSIDERED STUDENTS WITH INTERRUPTED FORMAL EDUCATION OR SIFE STUDENTS. THIS IS A DIFFERENT DEMOGRAPHIC, AND SO WE HAVE STUDENTS THAT ARE ENTERING NINTH GRADE AND THAT ARE STILL AT 1/4 GRADE READING LEVEL IN THEIR FIRST LANGUAGE, SO THIS ADDS SOME DIFFERENT A DIFFERENT CAVEAT INTO OUR TEACHING. THIS IS GOING TO CHANGE THINGS FOR US AND HELP EVEN OUR VETERAN TEACHERS UNDERSTAND THE STUDENT LEARN HOW TO BUILD THAT LANGUAGE AND THE CONTENT. RESEARCH SHOWS THAT IT TAKES 7 TO 10 YEARS TO FULLY ACQUIRE A LANGUAGE NOW IF THEY ARRIVE IN NINTH GRADE, AND THEY HAVE 1/4 GRADE READING LEVEL. WE ONLY HAVE FOUR YEARS TO GET THEM COLLEGE READY AND TEACH THEM ANOTHER LANGUAGE. SO THIS REALLY HAS, UM, THE POTENTIAL TO CHANGE THIS NOT JUST FOR OUR INDIVIDUALS LIKE DOMAIN THREE ACCOUNTABILITY. BUT TO CHANGE IT FOR DISTRICT AND FOR THE STUDENTS. OKAY ANY OTHER COMMENTS QUESTIONS FROM THE BOARD. THEY TOLD ME THE COST. I MEAN, THEY SAID. IT'S WE'VE JUST GOT MULTIPLE DIFFERENT AGENDAS IN THE ONE I'M LOOKING AT. IT DOESN'T HAPPEN THE DETAIL THANKS. MR BENAVIDEZ. BUT WHAT NUMBER OF TEACHERS WILL TAKE THE TRAINING? ALL OF OUR CONTENT TEACHERS, SO ABOUT 1300 WILL TAKE THE AUGUST 7TH, 8TH AND 9TH. IT'S JUST THREE DAYS TO SPLIT UP THE TEACHERS. UM AND THEN AT THE FOUR CAMPUSES, EVERY TEACHER ON THAT CAMPUS WILL TAKE THAT SHELTERED INSTRUCTION TRAINING. THANK YOU. COMMENTS, QUESTIONS. OKAY. THANK YOU VERY MUCH. THANK YOU. SO UM. WE'VE HAD THE PRESENTATION. DO I HAVE A MOTION REGARDING THIS AGENDA ITEM? MR ERIC. I AS
